 Marietta Duvall Nelson and father David White, 1938 Phillip had been divorced from a prior marriage by the time he met and began his relationship with Marietta in 1942.
Due to their religious beliefs, neither Marietta’s father, nor her aunt Etta (a Catholic nun) initially approved of her wish to marry Phillip. As a result, Marietta and Phillip decided to end their relationship.
